S. Reeves La Roche, OD
Dr. Reeves La Roche is a board certified optometrist in Farmville providing complete eye care services for the surrounding communities. In addition to exams/diagnosis, Dr. La Roche provides treatments of all disorders that affect the eye or vision, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, and hypertension.
Dr. Reeves La Roche earned his undergraduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans where he was named an honorary member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Omicron Delta Kappa societies. He then completed his doctorate degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. La Roche completed his externship at the Kittner Eye Center at UNC Chapel Hill, where he learned complex contact lens fittings for advanced corneal disease. Dr. Reeves La Roche is a member of the Virginia Optometric Association and for the past five years has had a practice with his father, Dr. Ripon W. La Roche II, M.D.
In his free time, Dr. La Roche enjoys serving in various service organizations. He is currently an active member in the Lion’s Club and was awarded “New Member of the Year” in 2015. He is also involved with Rotary Club and the Farmville Masonic Lodge (Worshipful Master for the year 2019).
RIPON W. LA ROCHE III, OD
Dr. Rip La Roche was born in Farmville, VA and is a graduate of the University of Virginia. His father, a long time eye care physician, provided him unique insight into the rewards of being a healthcare provider.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, Dr. La Roche attended Inter American University of Puerto Rico where he learned to give exams in Spanish and in English. While Dr. La Roche enjoys all the aspects of his job, he finds the greatest reward is being able to save a patient’s sight through providing the best eye care possible. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, scuba diving, and debate.
dr. james paauw, md
James Paauw, MD (pronounced “Pow”) specializes in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, MI with distinction in research. He then completed a general surgery internship and ophthalmology residency through Texas A&M in Temple, TX. During this time, he served as co-editor of Career Physician Briefings in Ophthalmology and in his final year of residency he acted as chief resident for the program.
Dr. Paauw completed a glaucoma fellowship at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He has a great deal of research experience and is a prolific writer and presenter on eye care topics. Among his charitable activities, Dr. Paauw has participated in multiple ophthalmology mission trips to Mexico, Kenya and Haiti.
Dr. Paauw sees patients once a month at the Southside Eye Center and performs cataract surgery in Farmville numerous days monthly.
Dr. Golnaz Javey, MD
Golnaz Javey, MD received her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and served as the Chief Resident during her last year of residency. She then continued with fellowship training in Vitreo-Retinal diseases at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Javey has presented in local and national meetings and has published in national scientific journals.
Dr. Javey is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, Virginia Society of Ophthalmology, and Lynchburg Academy of Medicine. Dr. Javey’s areas of expertise include diabetes, macular degeneration, “floaters”, retinal detachment and retinal vascular disease. Dr. Javey performs advanced Vitreo-Retinal surgery using the latest techniques available.
Dr. Javey sees patients at the Southside Eye Center in Farmville once a month.
